This is a post I wrote a while ago, but the internet crapped out on me so I saved it on Notepad....
First of all, I have really bad internet connection. Took me about ten tries to get to this page cuz it keeps timing out on me!!
Aiya.
Second, I think I've cracked the system of studying efficiently. Its all about maximization. Studying methods is a function, if you will. on the X axis we have the amount of time spent studying and on the Y axis we have the amount of detail in studying, if you will.... where at the origin, y states study one subject at a time, then move onto the next and take notes by hand on everything you read. In other words, very detailed.
Now take the derivative of this function and lo and behold, there is actually a maximum! That is, there's optimization involved.
Now, of course we all know that... we also know that the graph has diminishing returns. it starts at the origin, but as x approaches infinity, there's a limit on Y. Take the derivative of the function and you get...... the optimization!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what I have found. Not the theory that studying is fuction.. nono, that's a given. Its actually WHAT that optimization is! I'm incorporating a new way to study, plus a new way to take notes. Before, I used to take hand written notes for every thing, but the amount of time that goes into it doesn't really warrant the returns on that investment of time. Hence, some notes I take with the computer, takes less time, but I get less out of it (I lose learning through one less sensory... touch.)
Another thing is, actually, its faster to read only about 5-10 pages at a time, switch subjects, then read 5-10 pages of that subject, and switch again. Now, what you lose here is the continuity, so you actually have to refresh yourself and settling into that mindset of the subject (Which takes time... this is kinda like the "on the the last episode" review thing at the beginning of an episode). BUT, people tend to get bored after reading a while and start flipping thru the book to see how many pages are left, looking around, their mind wanders, they get a drink, go on the internet etc. SO, by switching every dozen pages or so, I keep my mind from wandering and actually I lose LESS time than sitting in one place and going through a whole chapter, then switching subjects!
Yes... that is all...
Later taters!
