Special Pawn Capture: En Passant

I did not know you can do that.

Pretty cool.

What is it? Its when a pawn can take a pawn without actually sidestepping it... physically. Basically, consider this scenario. There's a black pawn coming down from the top. And a white pawn who has not yet moved from its starting position. If the white pawn moved one up, the black pawn can sidestep it and capture it. So, you think, well I'll move the white pawn TWO spaces up, so that I'm right beside that black pawn, so he can't side step me.

Wrong.

This is when En Passant comes in. The Black pawn can now choose to elect the option of side stepping your pawn, by occupying the space that the white pawn would have occupied, had it only moved one step forward. So now you're in a position where the black pawn is one row below the white pawn, the white pawn is removed from the board. It has been captured by en passant :D
